Requirements

Android 8.0 (Oreo) or later recommended
Chrome, Edge, or Samsung Internet browser
Internet connection (for installation)
Storage: ~50-100MB available

Installation Steps

Method 1: Chrome (Most Common)

Open Chrome Browser

Launch Google Chrome on your Android device

Navigate to crisisIQ

Go to your organization’s crisisIQ URL

Log In

Sign in to your account

Look for Install Prompt

A banner may appear at bottom: “Add crisisIQ to Home screen”

Tap 'Install' or 'Add'

Follow the prompt to install

Or Use Menu Method

If no prompt: Tap (three dots) > “Add to Home screen” or “Install app”

Confirm Installation

Tap “Add” or “Install” in the dialog

Find App

Look for crisisIQ icon in app drawer or home screen

Launch

Tap icon to open in full-screen app mode

Method 2: Samsung Internet

Open Samsung Internet

Launch Samsung Internet browser

Navigate and Log In

Go to crisisIQ URL and sign in

Tap Menu

Tap (three lines) in bottom-right

Select 'Add Page To'

Choose “Add page to” option

Choose 'Home Screen'

Select “Home screen”

Customize (Optional)

Edit app name if desired

Add

Tap “Add” to complete

Open Microsoft Edge

Launch Edge browser

Visit crisisIQ

Navigate to URL and log in

Tap Menu

Tap (three dots) at bottom

Select 'Add to Phone'

Choose “Add to phone” or “Install”

Install

Tap “Install” to confirm

Detailed Installation Guide

Finding the Install Prompt

Chrome Install Banner:
  • Appears at bottom of screen
  • Shows crisisIQ logo
  • Text: “Add crisisIQ to Home screen”
  • Buttons: “Cancel” and “Install”
If Banner Doesn’t Appear:
  1. Wait a few seconds (banner may be delayed)
  2. Use manual menu method (see above)
  3. Ensure you’re logged in
  4. Try refreshing the page

Manual Installation via Menu

If automatic prompt doesn’t appear: Chrome:
  1. Tap (top-right)
  2. Scroll to find “Add to Home screen” or “Install app”
  3. Tap it
  4. Confirm
Samsung Internet:
  1. Tap (bottom-right)
  2. Tap “Add page to”
  3. Select “Home screen”
  4. Confirm

After Installation

Finding the App

All Apps List
  • Swipe up from home screen (most launchers)
  • Find “crisisIQ” alphabetically
  • Tap to launch

First Launch

When you first open the installed app:
  1. Splash Screen: crisisIQ logo (brief)
  2. Login Screen: May need to log in again
  3. Permissions: Allow notifications if prompted
  4. Offline Data: May ask to cache data
  5. Dashboard: Loads your personal dashboard

Notifications

Enable push notifications:
  1. Allow when prompted on first launch
  2. Or: Android Settings > Apps > crisisIQ > Notifications
  3. Toggle on desired notification types:
    • Simulation reminders
    • Results available
    • Team messages
    • Achievements

Managing the App

App Settings

Access via:
  • In-App: Profile > Settings
  • Android Settings: Settings > Apps > crisisIQ
Available Options:
  • Notifications
  • Storage usage
  • Permissions
  • Mobile data usage
  • Battery optimization
  • Default app settings

Updating the App

PWA apps update automatically:
  • No Google Play Store updates
  • Updates download when online
  • Latest version always available
  • May prompt to reload if major update

Moving Icon

  • Long-press icon
  • Drag to new location on home screen
  • Or drag to app drawer
  • Create folders by dragging onto other apps

Uninstalling

Select Uninstall

Tap “Uninstall” or drag to “Remove”

Confirm

Confirm removal
Uninstalling the PWA doesn’t delete your account. You can still access via browser or reinstall.

Optimization Tips

For Best Performance

Settings > Apps > crisisIQ > Mobile data & WiFi > Allow background dataEnables notifications and content syncing
Settings > Apps > crisisIQ > Battery > UnrestrictedPrevents Android from killing the app
Allow notifications, storage as promptedFull feature access
Maintain at least 500MB free spaceSmooth operation and caching

Data Usage

Control mobile data:
  • WiFi Only: Settings > crisisIQ > Mobile data (toggle off)
  • Limit Background: Restrict background data usage
  • Monitor: Check data usage in Android settings

Troubleshooting

Causes:
  • Already installed (check app drawer)
  • Browser doesn’t support PWA (use Chrome)
  • Not logged in
Solutions:
  • Check all home screens and app drawer
  • Switch to Chrome browser
  • Log in before attempting install
Cause: Clicking links from external sourcesSolution:
  • Launch from home screen icon, not links
  • External links open in browser
  • Copy URL and open in installed app
Solutions:
  • Settings > Apps > crisisIQ > Notifications (enable)
  • Check Do Not Disturb isn’t active
  • Ensure battery optimization not blocking
  • Re-launch app and allow when prompted
Solutions:
  • Close and reopen app
  • Clear browser cache (Chrome > Settings > Privacy > Clear browsing data)
  • Restart device
  • Ensure sufficient storage
  • Uninstall and reinstall
Solutions:
  • Connect to WiFi
  • Open app to trigger sync
  • Check background data is enabled
  • Force close and reopen app
