Password Best Practices

Creating Strong Passwords

1

Use a Password Manager

Tools like 1Password, LastPass, or Bitwarden can generate and store complex passwords
2

Make It Unique

Never reuse passwords across different services
3

Length Over Complexity

Longer passwords (12+ characters) are more secure than shorter complex ones
4

Avoid Patterns

Don’t use keyboard patterns (qwerty, 12345) or common substitutions (p@ssw0rd)
5

Use Passphrases

Consider memorable phrases with random words: Coffee-Train-Mountain-42!

Password Maintenance

Change password if you suspect it’s compromised
Update password periodically (every 90 days recommended)
Never share your password with anyone
Don’t write passwords down in plain text
Use different passwords for different accounts

Two-Factor Authentication

For enhanced security, enable 2FA after resetting your password:

Enable 2FA

Add two-factor authentication to your account
With 2FA enabled:
  • You’ll need both password and 6-digit code to log in
  • Provides extra protection even if password is compromised
  • Recommended for administrators and content creators

Troubleshooting

Ensure you:
  • Met all password requirements
  • Confirmed the password correctly
  • Are using the new password (not the old one)
  • Don’t have Caps Lock enabled
If issues persist, reset again or contact support.
Contact your organization administrator or support@crisisiq.com to verify your account email.
Wait a few minutes and try again. If you recently had failed login attempts, there may be a temporary lockout. Contact support if persistent.
Your chosen password appears in common password databases. Try:
  • Adding more unique characters
  • Making it longer
  • Using a password manager to generate a random password

When to Reset Your Password

Consider resetting your password if:
Immediate Reset Required:
  • You suspect your account was accessed without permission
  • You accidentally shared your password
  • Your password was compromised in a data breach
  • You used the same password on a compromised service
Recommended Reset:
  • It’s been over 90 days since last change
  • You’re logging in from a new device for the first time
  • You recently left “Remember Me” enabled on a public computer
  • You want to improve password security
